Subaru Reveals the All-New 2023 Solterra

Subaru unveiled the all-new 2023 Subaru Solterra at the 2021 Los Angeles Auto Show. Subaru fans and insiders got to get a first look at Subaru’s first electric vehicle. Dubbed the Solterra, a combination of the Latin words Sol and Terra which translate to sun and Earth, the Subaru’s electric SUV looks like a breath of fresh air. According to Subaru, their engineers and designers worked tirelessly to ensure that the 2023 Subaru Solterra would include all the things that make a Subaru, a Subaru. Based on the highlights and features, we’re keen to believe them. We’ll dive into some of the features Subaru listed but this is a great step for the automaker. Their Forester and Outback have been very well received over the years so we’ll have to see how consumers react to the Solterra. If well-received, EVs will continue to make their way into our everyday lives, especially if they’re similar to the vehicles we all love and adore.

2023 Subaru Solterra Highlights

Subaru has been teasing the Solterra for some time. The Japanese automaker wanted to make sure that in building a new EV, it would come with the same feel and likeness that made driving a Subaru so special. This includes the versatility, capability, and safety of a standard Subaru. From the looks of the 2023 Subaru Solterra, it seems like Subaru got it right. The automaker stated that their first electric SUV comes standard with their unique symmetrical all-wheel-drive system. Alongside this is Subaru’s X-Mode which is a driving feature with hill ascent and hill descent control. This gives the Solterra the edge it needs to handle the toughest of terrain. Whether its trails, hills, or sandy plains, the Solterra was made to traverse and navigate with the ease of a Subaru.

Subaru’s 2023 Solterra is stated to be the first zero-emission SUV that’s capable, safe, and long-lasting. For the Solterra, Subaru had to create a new EV platform. This is their E-global platform which will be used as the foundation for future Subaru EVs. At their presentation, Subaru stated that their brand represents fun to drive vehicles that can also get down and dirty. As such, the 2023 Solterra comes with advanced safety features and driver-assist technologies designed to help it accomplish this. Some of these include a 360-degree camera, blind-spot detection, reverse automatic braking and others that come standard as part of Subaru’s EyeSight safety suite.

Inside the 2023 Solterra, consumers will note a spacious cabin, about 126 cubic feet according to Subaru. There’s also 30.3 cubic feet of cargo volume for all kinds of gear and equipment. For infotainment, the Solterra gets a 12.3-inch multimedia system. For charging capabilities, Subaru stated that the Solterra will be able to recharge 80% in less than an hour with DC chargers. For their first electric vehicle, it looks like Subaru got it right. The design and aesthetic combined with the capability of a Subaru make this a great start for the automaker. We’ll have to see how it drives, but so far it looks like Subaru has taken the lead here.
