Out of the Toyota and Subaru partnership arose the sun and the earth. The 2023 Subaru Solterra is the Japanese automaker’s first electric utility vehicle (SUV). The name derives from two Latin words, “sol” for sun and “terra” for the earth. Solterra is the perfect name for a vehicle anticipated from the earth to the Seven Sisters and back. The Solterra will hit the streets by 2022 as a 2023 crossover variation.

Toyota Partnership

An e-TNGA is Toyota’s modular platform that supports battery electric vehicles. In addition, it supports the integration of numerous models with different battery capacities. Thus, the future of Subaru looks colorful. The Solterra exemplifies what makes Subaru one of the best automakers to date with impeccable safety features, off-road capabilities, and durability.

Even though the new Subaru SUV is already a standout with zero-emission, there are so many features that prove the Solterra is an electric vehicle unlike any other, let’s take a look.

Equipped to Endure Every Season

Pick a terrain; it doesn’t matter as the Solterra can withstand them all. The all-electric SUV holds 8.3 inches of ground clearance. Additionally, the Subaru electric brandishes a symmetrical all-wheel-drive system that instills balance on every kind of road. There are four drive modes: Eco, Normal, Power, and X-mode. So, pick a method, and a navigation aid will guide the driver through any weather condition. “Boldly go where no man has gone before.” The Solterra echoes these sentiments while traversing in areas other electric vehicles gladly avoid.

Battery Life

The Solterra holds a 71.4 kWh lithium-ion battery that weighs 4,450 lbs. It can achieve at least 220 miles per charge with the fast-charging feature.

Assist Technology

The Subaru Solterra bears an exclusive safety system known as eyesight assist. The eyesight assist is a driver monitoring system that ensures that the driver’s eyes stay fixed on the road and nowhere else for too long. Subaru’s eyesight assist is inoperative without Subaru Safety Sense. The safety sensor is a safe exit assist system that alerts drivers when other vehicles are close when departing the vehicle. Another safety feature is the reverse automatic braking system. The braking system utilizes ultrasonic senses and a 360-degree camera system that alarms the driver when a car or pedestrian is at the rear while the driver is reversing.

Although pricing has yet to receive confirmation, the 2023 Subaru Solterra should start around $35,000 (plus destination fee). The five-door all-wheel-drive EV will premiere in dealerships around mid-2022.
