Subaru has been enjoying a lot of praise for its 2022 Solterra. Lately, the Japanese automaker has been focusing on electric vehicles, something many automakers are also currently considering. With the release of its all-new, all-electric Subaru Solterra, Subaru has been cautiously gauging consumer interest. This is to ensure that EVs remain in popular demand and that the automaker won’t be wasting resources toward a sector that might spin out. As anyone paying attention can see, this has clearly not been the case. EVs have taken the automotive industry by storm as each automaker competes to produce the most efficient and capable EV. While Subaru has been carefully navigating the EV market, they have also been working diligently to keep their rally sedan fans happy. This means updating and modifying the next-generation 2022 WRX. Subaru revealed the fifth-generation sedan last year, but some have been quick to criticize the automaker’s decisions. From what we’ve seen, the 2022 Subaru WRX looks powerful and impressive. We’ll dive in and see what the fuss is about, but it seems Subaru has its sports sedan sector more than covered.

2022 Subaru WRX

Subaru recently revealed the fifth-generation 2022 Subaru WRX at the 2021 LA Auto Show. According to the Japanese automaker, the goal with the new WRX was to produce something new and distinct from previous iterations. To accomplish this, Subaru redesigned the 2022 WRX both inside and out. The automaker added a new continuously variable transmission (CVT) with significant enhancements like faster simulated shifts between gear ratios. Subaru also decided to include add-ons from the WRX’s GT trim. These included Recaro seats, adaptive shock absorbers, and high-performance summer tires. With these new additions, Subaru wanted to let its rally sedan fans know that they’re still being considered. About the new 2022 WRX, Suabru’s car line planning manager Michael Redic said,

“The customers love the performance of the car and then we’re just asking for it to be delivered in a way that is more comfortable for daily driving, but also more capable, especially with the suspension,” says Redic. “We know WRX customers want something that’s powerful and it is one of the most powerful cars in its segment, compared to the direct competitors like [the Volkswagen Golf] GTI and [Honda Civic] Si.”

Subaru is making sure WRX fans get what they want. Subaru has made the manual gearbox available for the 2022 WRX once again after first saying that the 2022 Subaru WRX would only come with an automatic transmission. The automaker improved the new gearbox making upshifts 30 percent quicker and downshifts 50 percent quicker. We’ll have to see what else Subaru has in store for WRX fans, but this is all a great sign of more to come.
