The next-generation 2024 Subaru Crosstrek will arrive with several new changes. As one of Subaru’s most popular SUVs, Subaru is aiming to give the compact SUV even greater capability and versatility. Although the Japanese automaker has been busy with its all-electric Solterra, its combustion engine vehicles like the Crosstrek remain a priority. Other vehicles like the Subaru Impreza and Outback have also received new upgrades. As for the 2024 Crosstrek, the compact SUV will receive two new trims, the addition of front-wheel drive, and improved fuel efficiency. We’ll take a look at these recent changes and see what consumers can expect from the next-generation Crosstrek.

2024 Subaru Crosstrek Receives New Updates

The 2024 Subaru Crosstrek will arrive for the new model year with several new changes. One of these changes affects the Japanese version of the compact SUV, which is significant. While Subaru has been known for its unique all-wheel drive system, the next-generation Crosstrek will be offered with a front-wheel drive system. According to Subaru, the goal is to appeal to a broader audience of Japanese consumers by offering them a more efficient Crosstrek. Equipped with front-wheel drive, the compact SUV will see increased fuel efficiency. This will significantly benefit those using the Crosstrek as a daily commuter. Whether this front-wheel-drive version will come to the United States is uncertain, but it’s interesting to see Subaru looking for ways to improve efficiency.

Another update for the 2024 Crosstrek is the addition of two new trims: Touring and Limited. Both trims will be available with either all-wheel drive or front-wheel drive. In an attempt to further improve fuel efficiency, the next-generation Crosstrek will arrive with less ground clearance than before. Going from 8.7 to 7.9 inches of ground clearance, the compact SUV will see improved fuel mileage. While some drivers may see this as an unnecessary sacrifice, the automaker has improved the 2.5L engine giving it more power, so this should help with the Crosstrek’s off-road capabilities.

One final update for the next-generation Crosstrek is the removal of its manual transmission. The Touring and Limited trims will instead feature Subaru’s continuously variable automatic transmission. Subaru’s reason for removing the manual transmission is that it interferes with its advanced EyeSight safety system. Since Subaru wants zero fatal accidents by 2030, it is considering every option to improve safety. Those Subaru vehicles equipped with a manual gearbox do not have the opportunity for the Eyesight system. While some of these changes may be off-putting, especially for U.S. consumers, it shows that Subaru wants to increase its versatility. Plus, improving fuel efficiency may be an option some consumers are willing to sacrifice for.
