Potential Plug In Hybrid On the Way For Sixth Gen Subaru Forester

October 22nd, 2021 by

Subaru has been making headlines with its Subaru Forester and Outback models. These SUVs have generated a lot of excitement, especially with the release of their Wilderness trims. Subaru’s success is partly owed to its innovative technology. The Japanese automaker’s unique symmetrical all-wheel-drive system has allowed their compact SUVs to fare exceptionally well against the competition. Alongside this is the fact that Subaru’s SUVs are engaging, durable, and versatile. Now it looks like Subaru is aiming to improve upon its popular SUVs by introducing a potential plug-in hybrid powertrain. This would be used for the Subaru Forester and it’s being reported that the hybrid technology would come from Toyota, according to the Japanese online outlet Mag-X. The latest rumors coming from Mag-X state that Subaru is considering launching the next-generation Subaru Forester as a plug-in hybrid variant with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine.

Subaru Forester Plug-In Hybrid On the Way?

The Japanese automotive site Mag-X has been responsible for several rumors surrounding the next-generation Subaru Forester. The site states that the Subaru Forester will get a completely new remodel in 2024. This will be done in partnership with Toyota apparently as the two automakers will share their hybrid technology. Subaru has done well with their Forester. The compact SUV has received much praise for its ability to get drivers where they need to go safely and efficiently. Based on the online report, Subaru plans to make the Forester even more efficient. It seems the automaker will create a new remodel with the inclusion of a 1.8L turbocharged Boxer engine. This will be supplemented with Toyota’s hybrid technology.

Subaru’s next-generation Forester is set to have a full hybrid powertrain along with two electric motors which will drastically improve fuel efficiency. This new technology could be part of Subaru’s plans to electrify its lineup, something Subaru has stated that it hopes to achieve by 2025. Many automakers have been turning toward electrification as a way to mitigate the effects of the current global climate crisis. Subaru and Toyota are well on their way to doing the same. According to the report, Subaru will partner with Toyota to share in a new technology called strong hybrids. This will likely be hybrid and plug-in hybrid technology with some added touches.

If the reports about the sixth-generation Forester are accurate, then Subaru will have boosted its lead ahead of other automakers. The Japanese automaker already has a solid grasp of what consumers want out of an SUV. With some adjustments for electric and hybrid capabilities, their lineup will become more much environmentally friendly. Subaru has stated that it wishes to electrify its Forester, Outback, Crosstrek, and Ascent SUVs. The goal for Subaru will be to only sell electric vehicles by the first half of 2030. We’ll be looking forward to what the automaker plans next.
