The Subaru WRX Wagon Has Returned
The Subaru WRX Wagon is making a return. The Sportwagon will be arriving as a 2022 model year vehicle after a decades-long hiatus. This news comes soon after the release of the 2022 Subaru WRX which had its exciting debut last year. Subaru had unveiled the newly redesigned rally sports sedan along with new changes and updates. After seeing the overwhelmingly positive reception to the new WRX, it seems that Subaru will now be offering a wagon body-style version of the iconic WRX. The Subaru WRX Wagon will feature a similar design as the sedan but will come with additional space. We’ll go into more detail about the new WRX Wagon and see what consumers can expect.
Subaru Unveils Subaru WRX Wagon
Subaru will be releasing a wagon body-style WRX for the 2022 model year. Given how well received the Subaru WRX sedan was, it seems that Subaru will be offering a Sportwagon alongside it. Like the sedan, the Sportwagon will also receive a continuously variable transmission which has been enhanced with faster-simulated shifts between gear ratios. The gearbox has also been improved to allow upshifts to be 30 percent quicker and downshifts 50 percent quicker. Equipped with the CVT, the Subaru WRX Wagon will utilize a 2.4L turbocharged engine that’s capable of 271 horsepower and 258lb-ft of torque. The Sportwagon will only come paired with an automatic transmission, however, unlike the sedan version.
Looking at the 2022 Subaru WRX Wagon, owners will note a design similar to the sedan WRX. Both vehicles ride on the same Subaru Global Platform so they feature similar performance. The WRX Wagon has a front fascia with the iconic WRX hood-scoop as well as sharp LED lights. At the rear, the Sportwagon has a sloping rear end which gives it a sportier look. Owners will also have access to a variety of accessories such as a cargo pod, roof rack, and STi body kit.
The WRX Wagon’s interior cabin comes equipped with advanced technologies incorporated in the Subaru EyeSight safety suite. As for the layout, the Sportwagon is similar to the WRX sedan with carbon fiber accents and contrast red stitching. Sporty bucket seats are available for the front seats and depending on the trim, they feature either cloth or Ultrasuede material. In terms of passenger space, the wagon has seating for 5. For storage space, the wagon has 31.9 cubic feet of space with the rear seats split. As for infotainment, the WRX Wagon offers either a 7-inch or an 11.6-inch touchscreen. This comes compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Those interested in the 2022 Subaru WRX Wagon can look forward to it arriving this Fall.
