Three New Subaru EVs Will Hit the Market in 2026

The Subaru lineup will be welcoming three new all-electric SUVs. Right now, Subaru has the Solterra but plans to welcome three new EVs by 2026.

Subarus Future

Subaru is getting serious about its plug-in vehicles and plans to build up to three new EVs for U.S. customers by the end of 2026 and will add capacity to build 400,000 full-electric cars in Japan by 2028. The rapid expansion plan signals a new goal by Subaru to have 40 percent of its global sales from electrified vehicles by the decade’s end. Subaru Executive Vice President Atsushi Osaki casually dropped colossal news. He said the company plans to release three new electric vehicles (EVs) by 2026. All three will be SUVs. It has not been confirmed yet if the new vehicles will be replacing one of the Subarus cars or be added to the list of Subarus. While we’d all like to know more about these future electric SUVs, Osaki declined to give any clues.

“I would like to discuss these new models in more detail at another time,” he said.

Three New EV SUVs

Osaki did say that Subaru plans to sell 200,000 EVs globally in 2026. Currently, Subaru has built 874,000 vehicles in the 2023 fiscal year and expects to produce over a million by the end of the 2024 fiscal year. This is excellent news for Subaru, as the all-electric vehicle is expected to bring in high sales. Toyota and Subaru will be keeping their partnership with the Solterra. Osaki said the three future Subaru EVs would also use batteries from the Toyota alliance.

Just last year, Subaru announced a Strategic Reorganization of Domestic Production regarding green vehicles. They stated that they will build more transmissions for Subaru models that use Toyota’s hybrid system and will start production of its own all-electric models at both its Yajima plant starting around 2025 and Oizumi plant in 2027 or later.

However, Osaki confirmed that Subaru will certainly begin constructing EVs at Yajima in 2025 at twice the original rate. While Subaru at first intended to build the capacity to produce as many as 100,000 EVs a year at Yajima, Osaki stated that number is now 200,000. Along with the original 200,000 estimated ability for Oizumi, meaning Subaru will be capable of making as much as 400,000 EVs per year at these plants starting in 2028.

What does Subaru Solterra Have?

This AWD electric vehicle features the standard capability of a Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. It also has active safety systems like standard EyeSight Driver Assist Technologies. It will even deliver available cloud navigation and Intelligent Assistant features. No matter where the journey leads, the vehicle comes standard with dual-function X-MODE with settings for snow/dirt and deep snow/mud. The 2023 Subaru is made with all-new electric vehicle architecture called the e-Subaru Global Platform, which features strategic crumple zones and a reinforced structure for secure crash protection.
