Subaru Joins the Supercharger Network by Adopting Tesla’s NACS Technology

November 10th, 2023 by

Subaru recently made an important move in the electric vehicle industry by adopting the North American Charging Standard (NACS), which will allow them to access Tesla’s Supercharger Network. This strategic decision will provide Subaru customers with the ability to charge their electric vehicles at Tesla’s widely distributed charging stations, making it more convenient and accessible to travel longer distances without having to worry about running out of power. By gaining access to this network, Subaru is expanding its reach in the electric vehicle market and bringing more benefits to its customers.

NACS Technology

Subaru, the renowned automobile manufacturer based in Japan,  made an announcement that it will incorporate Tesla’s charging connector into its upcoming battery electric vehicles (BEVs). This strategic move enables Subaru’s future BEVs to be charged at Tesla’s Supercharger Network stations, a network of high-speed charging stations that offer rapid charging for Tesla electric vehicles. This will provide immense convenience to Subaru customers as they will be able to access Tesla’s extensive charging infrastructure.

Subaru has revealed that it plans to launch certain BEV models in North America in 2025 featuring the all-new NACS ports. The NACS (North American Charging Standard) ports are used for Level 2 charging, a slower charging method than Tesla’s Supercharger Network, but can be used with a wider range of electric vehicles. Additionally, Subaru has expressed its commitment to promoting the adoption of NACS for its future BEVs to be launched after 2025.

Subaru’s decision to adopt Tesla’s charging connector and incorporate NACS ports in its upcoming BEVs reflects the company’s determination to provide its customers with a wide range of charging options. This would make Subaru’s electric vehicles more accessible, reliable, and convenient for the customers, all while contributing to the promotion of sustainable transport.

Subaru has taken a significant step forward in its efforts to promote sustainable transportation by announcing its plans to offer an adapter to its electric vehicle (EV) owners, allowing them to charge their vehicles at CCS chargers. This move is a crucial one that many companies have already taken, as it provides EV drivers with access to a much wider network of charging stations throughout North America. In addition to the 15,000 Tesla Superchargers that will soon be available to Subaru owners, the third-party adapters will further expand the charging options available to drivers as well. This decision clearly underscores Subaru’s strong commitment to promoting eco-friendly transportation and also offers its customers greater flexibility and convenience.
